The Gurgaon Police on Friday arrested two men after a viral video circulating on social media showed them allegedly driving a Mahindra Thar recklessly while one of them ‘urinated’ from the SUV.

The incident took place on Railway Road.

The accused have been identified as Mohit (23) from Dadanpur village and Anuj (25) from Silana village, in Jhajjar. They were nabbed on October 24 and the Mahindra Thar used in the incident was seized, police said.

“The video showed a Mahindra Thar being driven recklessly, endangering the lives of the occupants and others on the road, while one individual was seen urinating from the window of the moving vehicle. Following the video’s emergence, a case was registered on Thursday at the New Colony Police Station under relevant legal provisions for rash driving and public nuisance,” a police spokesperson said.

During questioning, it was revealed that the Mahindra Thar belonged to Mohit.

“Anuj was driving the vehicle recklessly during the incident, while Mohit committed the act of urinating from the open window of the moving car. Further investigation is underway,” said police.

A review of the accused’s criminal records revealed that Mohit has a prior history of serious offences, police added.

“He is named in a murder case and two cases of affray in Jhajjar district, along with one case under the Arms Act in Rohtak district. Mohit was previously arrested in connection with the Jhajjar case and was released on bail in December 2022,” the spokesperson added.

In June, a viral video of a speeding yellow Lamborghini Gallardo on the Golf Course Road in DLF Phase 1 in Gurgaon had drawn the police’s attention. A case was filed against an unknown driver for “reckless driving” and “endangering lives,” officers had said.

“The driver’s actions not only endangered lives but also set a dangerous precedent by gaining fame through such reckless behaviour,” the FIR filed at DLF Phase 1 police station had stated, as it highlighted violations of traffic and public safety laws.

Police had invoked sections 125, 281, and 57 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for endangering lives, reckless driving, and aiding the commission of an offence, respectively.
