Sonam Kapoor’s personal style can be described as maximalist chic — with just the right amount of edge and drama, perfectly balanced with her soft, dewy makeup. A smokey eye or a bold lip is the maximum extent to which she’s willing to play up her facial canvas. But she loves to go big with accessories, choosing elaborate neckpieces, earrings and bracelets to layer and add texture to her look.

With the wedding season in full swing, everyone’s busy juggling multiple invites. Throwing together a new look without breaking the bank can seem daunting, but Sonam Kapoor is the perfect muse for those in need of last-minute inspiration.

Her sister and stylist Rhea Kapoor shared three looks pulled together for Sonam for the recent wedding invites, captioning the post, “Shaadi Season with @sonamkapoor” on Instagram. Here’s a quick breakdown of them all:

Look 1

For the first look, Sonam pulled out a couture piece from Rahul Mishra’s 2017 collection – a white suit set with intricate golden threadwork, a matching dupatta, paired with sequinned juttis and a mini clutch bag. A sleek pulled-back braid, a hint of rosy blush and a pop of pink on her lips made for a soft canvas. But the highlight of the look was a ginormous, elaborate golden neckpiece, along with dainty matching jhumkas.

For those who like to keep it chic and fuss-free, playing up the accessories can pull together the simplest of looks into something shaadi-ready!

Look 2

The second look is for those who love a bit of vintage, old school drama. Sonam chose a custom Anamika Khanna ensemble – a butter yellow top with long sleeves, a silk skirt with flowers embroidered on the fabric and a silk dupatta draped and pinned to either side of her shoulders, across the back of her neck.

The look was heavily accessorised with a pearl neckpiece and matching earrings, as well as a polki choker. A bright pink blush, pink lips and a hint of pink roses popping out of her bun sealed the deal. The shoes remained the same, and Sonam cuffed a bracelet around her wrist.

Look 3

The last look is similarly appealing to the second, bound to be a favourite among sari-lovers. If weddings mean serious business to you, and you cannot imagine showing up not draped in five yards of fashion, Sonam’s hand-painted silk sari by Tarun Tahiliani fits the bill. The sea foam green fabric clings to the skin and promises to keep you warm during the cold winter nights. Paired with a Victorian-inspired blouse, as she did, the sari makes for the perfect canvas for the accessories to do the talking.

The Aisha actor repurposed her pearl jewels, wearing a neckpiece, earrings, and bracelet rings to add a touch of tradition to her look. A bold lip and a tiny bindi in the same shade added the final touches.

Sonam’s looks show us that there’s no need to buy multiple sets of accessories for every outfit. A simple mix-and-match can elevate the simplest of outfits into daytime glam, and layering the right pieces can turn it into a look appropriate for the baaraat.
