Running 10+, 15+ year-old vehicle? Fitness test fees updated: Prices, details

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has revised the fees for vehicle fitness tests, introducing a new age-based structure under the Central Motor Vehicles (Fifth Amendment) Rules, 2025. The biggest change is that the higher fee slabs now begin from the 10-year mark instead of 15 years, bringing many more vehicles under the updated cost brackets. The government has created three clear age groups for fitness testing: 10–15 years, 15–20 years and above 20 years. These apply to all vehicle categories, including motorcycles, three-wheelers, quadricycles, LMVs, and medium and heavy commercial vehicles. As the vehicle crosses each age bracket, the fee increases accordingly. For standard vehicles up to 15 years, fitness test fees now stand at Rs 400 for motorcycles, Rs 600 for three-wheelers and LMVs, and Rs 1,000 for medium and heavy goods or passenger vehicles. For vehicles between 15 and 20 years, the revised charges rise to Rs 500 for motorcycles, Rs 1,000 for three-wheelers and LMVs, Rs 1,300 for medium commercial vehicles and Rs 1,500 for heavy commercial vehicles.

The highest slab covers vehicles older than 20 years. Under this category, motorcycles will now be tested at Rs 1,000, three-wheelers and LMVs at Rs 2,000, medium goods and passenger vehicles at Rs 2,600, and heavy commercial vehicles at Rs 3,000. These rule updates come into effect from the day the notification is published.Alongside this, the government has also made steep revisions to fitness test fees for ageing commercial fleets. Heavy trucks and buses older than 20 years will now pay Rs 25,000. Medium commercial vehicles in the same age group will be charged Rs 20,000. Light motor vehicles above 20 years will now cost Rs 15,000 to test, three-wheelers Rs 7,000, while the fee for two-wheelers has increased from Rs 600 to Rs 2,000.
