After a formal announcement by the central government in September, senior BJP leader Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi on Saturday said that the Vande Bharat Express train between Ferozepur and New Delhi will be flagged off on November 7.

“On November 7, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off four new Vande Bharat trains across the country, including the one running between Ferozepur and Delhi,” former Cabinet minister and BJP national executive member Sodhi said.

Acknowledging the efforts of the Prime Minister and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for this initiative, the BJP leader, who also hails from Ferozepur, said that the train will operate six days a week and will not run on Wednesday.

“This historic step will put Ferozepur on a new track of development and greatly benefit traders as well as the entire region,” he said, adding that the train will prove to be a “boon” not only for Ferozepur but for the entire Malwa region.

The Railway Minister and Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu had officially announced the launch of the train on September 23.

Proposed schedule of the train

The train will depart from Ferozepur at 7.55 am, halt at Faridkot, Bathinda, Dhuri, Patiala, Ambala, Kurukshetra, and Panipat, before arriving at Old Delhi railway station at 2.35 pm. On the return journey, it will leave Delhi at 4 pm and reach Ferozepur at 10.35 pm.

He also said already, the Railways has opened a treasure chest of train services for Ferozepur — in 2023, a train to Rameswaram and on June this year — trains from Ferozepur to Nanded Sahib and Haridwar, And the resumption of the Ferozepur to Chandigarh train was done in June.

MoS Bittu said that 22485 Delhi-Moga Express has now been extended to Ferozepur Cantt. This train will depart from Delhi via Jakhal and Ludhiana, reach Moga at 2.57 pm, depart from there at 2.59 pm, and reach Ferozepur Cantt at 3 pm. On the return journey, it will depart from Ferozepur Cantt at 3.35 pm and reach Delhi at 11.35 pm. This once-a-week train’s formal timetable is yet to be framed regarding its extension to Ferozepur, he added.

“Heartfelt thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Ashwani Vaishnav, who have always shown great love and commitment towards Punjab. The long-standing demand of the people of Ferozepur and nearby areas has finally been fulfilled. This will not only benefit travellers, but will also provide a significant boost to trade and connectivity in the region,” Bittu added.
