Iran Protests News Today Live Updates: Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has accused US President Donald Trump of being directly involved in the protests. He described Trump as a “criminal” and said the US president played a central role in what he called an organised attempt to destabilise Iran. Khamenei said people linked to the United States and Israel were responsible for the violence during the protests. “Those linked to Israel and the US caused massive damage,” he said, accusing the two countries of directing unrest inside Iran.

Donald Trump respond to Khamenei: US President Donald Trump Saturday said Iran should seek new leadership, calling for an end to the long rule of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. “It’s time to look for new leadership in Iran,” Trump told POLITICO as protests that had called for the fall of the Iranian leadership appeared to ease. Responding to the posts, Trump said Iran’s leaders rule through force and fear. “What he is guilty of, as the leader of a country, is the complete destruction of the country and the use of violence at levels never seen before,” Trump told POLITICO.

Deaths and unclear toll: Referring to the scale of deaths publicly for the first time, Khamenei said “several thousand” people were killed during the protests. There is no confirmed official figure. The US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) says about 3,000 people were killed, while Iranian authorities have previously acknowledged only hundreds of deaths.
