Australia batter Travis Head achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the fastest player to reach 3,000 ODI runs during the third ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday, surpassing Steve Smith‘s record. After quiet performances in Perth and Adelaide, Head displayed aggressive batting on Sydney’s hard pitch with visible cracks. He reached the 3,000-run mark in his 76th innings with a single to mid-off at the traditionally high-scoring SCG.

Head reached this milestone three innings faster than Steve Smith’s 79 innings, setting a new Australian record. Michael Bevan and George Bailey share the third position, having achieved this feat in 80 innings each. In terms of balls faced, Head’s 2,839 deliveries ranks fourth, behind Glenn Maxwell (2440), Jos Buttler (2533), and Jason Roy (2820).Head’s innings began with a boundary off Mohammed Siraj in the third over. He continued his aggressive approach against Siraj, scoring two more boundaries, and added another four off Prasidh Krishna.During the final powerplay over, Head hit Siraj for a four over the covers. However, Siraj claimed Head’s wicket on the next ball when his late cut was caught by Prasidh Krishna at backward point. This marked Siraj’s ninth dismissal of Head in 19 innings across all formats.Head scored 29 runs from 25 balls, his highest score in the three-match series. His career statistics now show 3,007 runs in 79 matches, with an average of 43.57 and a strike rate of 105.73.
