The Surat police department organised the ‘Run for Unity’ marathon event on the ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ on Friday. Along with police personnel, local residents also participated in the event. Surat police commissioner Anupam Singh Gahlaut ran for some distance. Later in the afternoon, after the event ended, Gahlaut noticed that participants had littered the main road with empty water bottles and wafer packets and other garbage and began collecting the waste in a disposal bag. Seeing the police commissioner’s action, the deputy commissioners and assistant commissioners and other police officials joined in to clear the remaining litter on the route. Thus, the marathon event turned into a cleanliness drive.
