Referring to the recent incident of a shoe being hurled at Chief Justice BR Gavai and the alleged suicide of a Dalit IPS officer in Haryana over caste discrimination, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Sunday exhorted party workers to bring the party to power to end such discrimination.

Addressing the national level meet of party office bearers in Lucknow, the BSP chief said: “The unprecedented unpleasant incident that took place inside the court with the Chief Justice of the country or the suicide committed by a senior police officer of Haryana state due to hateful casteism, etc, are disturbing incidents of great concern for both the constitutional government and the civilized society of the country and strict legal action should definitely be taken.”

She said that it was a matter of concern that the seriousness towards these incidents, which should have actually been there in the rule of law, is not there.

“Injustices, atrocities, and disrespect and humiliation faced by Dalits and other bahujan communities can only be stopped if we have the key to political power,” the BSP chief added.

The meeting was called to review the preparations of the party organisation in various states of the country, barring Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

This was Mayawati’s third meeting in the past fortnight – on October 9, she held a grand rally in Lucknow, followed by a review meeting of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand units of the party on October 16.

The BSP chief said that “enthusiasm, zeal and physical, mental and financial efforts” shown by lakhs of people from villages of Uttar Pradesh during the October 9 Lucknow rally to become capable and “obtain the master key of power”, needs to be followed by other states, as well, so that the struggle and missionary goal of the BSP is accomplished. The dream of Baba Saheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar of establishing a welfare state for the poor and oppressed bahujans, can be truly realised.

Claiming that this political struggle necessitated the formation of the Bahujan Samaj Party, Mayawati claimed the BSP government was able to realise the dreams of social change and economic success for the community shown by the great saints, gurus, born within the Bahujan Samaj – right from Jyotirao Phule, Narayana Guru, Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj, Baba Saheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar to Kanshi Ram.

She also urged party workers to “continue the tradition’ of financial support to the party on her birthday (January 15) to “strengthen their politics of self-respect and self-esteem of bahujan samaj”.
