Actor Ajith Kumar made headlines after reacting to the tragic stampede that occurred on September 27 during a rally led by actor and politician Vijay. Following Ajith’s comments, filmmaker R. Parthiban also backed his views, emphasizing the need for collective responsibility in such incidents. On social media, Ajith’s remarks quickly went viral, with some netizens claiming he was blaming Vijay for what had happened. However, Ajith has now clarified his stance in an interview with Rangaraj Pandey. A stampede at a Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) campaign in Karur claimed 41 lives on September 27.

Ajith said that his comments about Karur stampede were being misinterpreted and used to pit him against Vijay, something he never intended. “I don’t want anyone to use my interview as a tool to set me up against Vijay. People should refrain from doing this. I have always only wished well for Vijay. I pray for everyone to lead a happy life with their families.”

Earlier, while speaking to THR India, Ajith expressed deep regret over the incident and questioned why such tragedies continue to occur during political rallies and film-related events. “The Karur stampede that happened. That individual (Vijay) is not responsible; we are all responsible. Even the media has a part to play in Today I think we have become a society that is obsessed with gathering a crowd to show a crowd. All this has to end. I mean, you also have crowds going for cricket matches, but you don’t see this happening there. Why is it only happening with film stars? It projects the entire film industry in a bad light,” said Ajith.

After the stampede, Vijay reached out to the affected families and invited them to a resort in Mahabalipuram. A total of 37 families met the actor. Out of 41 families, 39 have reportedly received a compensation of ₹20 lakh each. Vijay also maintained that the tragedy was not a result of logistical failure but a political conspiracy. In a video message, he said, “I have gone to about five districts for campaigns, and why does this happen only in Karur? People know the truth. People are watching everything. When people of Karur themselves started revealing the truth, I felt like God himself had come out to speak the truth.”
