NEW DELHI: Former India captain MS Dhoni has added another remarkable achievement to his legacy off the cricket field after emerging as the highest individual taxpayer from Jharkhand and Bihar combined during the 2025-26 financial year.The revelation was made on Thursday by Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (Bihar-Jharkhand), Dr D Sudhakara Rao, while addressing the media in Ranchi.“The total collection from Bihar and Jharkhand during the financial year of 2025-26 was around Rs 20,000 crore, of which Rs 12,000 crore was collected only from Jharkhand,” Rao was quoted as saying by news agency PTI..
He further confirmed that Dhoni topped the list of individual taxpayers across the two states.“MS Dhoni was the highest individual taxpayer combining Bihar and Jharkhand during the previous financial year,” Rao stated, although he declined to disclose the exact amount of tax paid by the former India skipper.Jharkhand contributes major shareAccording to the Income Tax department, Jharkhand alone contributed nearly 60 per cent of the combined tax collection from the two states. Officials said around 70 per cent of the overall revenue came through Tax Deducted at Source (TDS).Among corporations, Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) and CMPDI were among the highest taxpayers.Officials admitted that mining activities in Jharkhand were affected due to heavy rainfall during the financial year, which impacted tax collection figures.“During the previous financial year, the mining activity was a bit affected due to heavy rains, which impacted the collection. We hope to exceed the Rs 20,000 crore mark in tax collection during the current financial year,” Rao said.
