MEERUT: Two sub-inspectors in Bulandshahr were suspended after a 28-year-old gang-rape survivor alleged that the officers raped her for two days and extorted Rs 50,000 by claiming the money was needed to take action against her assaulters. The woman filed a complaint last week through the Integrated Grievance Redressal System (IGRS) portal, prompting senior police officers to order an inquiry into the conduct of the officers in the Khurja area, where she had earlier lodged her gang-rape complaint.Bulandshahr SSP Dinesh Kumar, told TOI that the woman had first approached police with a gang-rape complaint against four men, after which one accused was arrested. He said, “The fresh allegations against the two officers were serious and both were suspended with immediate effect. The woman has changed her version multiple times and is now unwilling to file a formal complaint specifically naming the officers, which has made internal proceedings more complex although the suspension remains in force.”In her detailed submission, the woman said she was kidnapped in Nov last year by four men, drugged, and held captive for 48 days across Aligarh and other locations, during which she was raped repeatedly and forcibly converted. She said one of the accused had first contacted her on Instagram and later connected her with the other men involved. She added that after she managed to escape and reported the matter to the police, a sub-inspector allegedly summoned her to a private residence and raped her multiple times over two days, while another officer took Rs 50,000 from her after telling her the money was necessary to secure the arrest of the accused. She also alleged that her husband was detained at the police station and threatened with a false case to force her into complying with the officers’ demands. She added she was recently attacked by two unidentified bike-borne men, though no FIR has been registered in that matter yet. She has also claimed that police delayed her initial FIR and that some of the accused, who she said were influential, threatened her family and attempted to silence her.Kumar said the investigation into the original gang-rape case established the involvement of only one accused, the man who had contacted her on Instagram. He said police verified the call detail records and mobile phone locations of the three other men she named and did not find evidence placing them at the locations she mentioned. The man who was found involved was arrested and sent to jail
