‘The Odyssey’ Tuesday collections

After a blockbuster opening weekend and an expected dip on Monday, The Odyssey bounced back with a modest increase in earnings on Tuesday, signalling healthy weekday momentum.According to early estimates on sacnilk, ‘The Odyssey’ collected an estimated Rs 8.35 crore net on Day 5 across 8,520 shows. As per the report, the film saw a 4.4 per cent growth over Monday’s estimated collection of Rs 8 crore net. With this, the film’s total India net collection has climbed to Rs 77.65 crore, while its India gross total collections stand at an estimated Rs 92.63 crore.

‘The Odyssey’ first weekend collections

The film opened with Rs 17.40 crore net on Friday before surging to Rs 22 crore net on Saturday and seeing a minor dip on Sunday with a collection of Rs 21.90 crore net. With a total of Rs 61.3 crore, the film delivered one of the strongest opening weekends for a Christopher Nolan film in India.

English version of ‘The Odyssey’ continues to dominate

Since its release on Friday, the original English-language version remained the biggest contributor to the film’s collections. On Tuesday alone, the English version earned an estimated Rs 6.50 crore, while also recording the highest occupancy of 63 per cent among all language versions. The flm’s English format has raked in an estimated Rs 72.68 crore thus far, while the Hindi, Tamil and Telugu dubbed editions continued to contribute steadily to the overall box office total.

‘The Odyssey’ becomes higest-grossing IMAX film in India

‘The Odyssey’ has also rewritten the record books for IMAX screenings in India. The film grossed an estimated Rs 15.33 crore from just 34 IMAX screens during its first three days in theatres. As per sacnilk, nearly 25 per cent of the film’s Rs 61.40 crore opening weekend collections came from those 34 premium-format screens, while the remaining 75 per cent was generated from approximately 2,700 standard screens nationwide. With this, the film has now beaten the long-held record by Tom Cruise’s ‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’, making ‘The Odyssey’ the highest-grossing IMAX opener in Indian box office history. In North America, ‘The Odyssey’ grossed USD 29.6 million from 444 IMAX screens, representing a 23.8 per cent share of the domestic box office.Internationally, the film collected USD 22.2 million across 441 IMAX screens in 74 markets, accounting for 16 per cent of the overseas box office.Twenty-six territories, including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Australia, Mexico and Argentina, registered their biggest IMAX opening weekends. The film also recorded the biggest IMAX opening ever for a Christopher Nolan title, a Universal Pictures release and for the month of July.Additionally, the film performed strongly in IMAX 70mm, with the 41 theatres worldwide capable of projecting the format earning USD 6.3 million during the opening weekend, averaging about USD 153,000 per screen.

‘The Odyssey’ eyes Rs 150 crore mark

Early trade reports suggest that the film is headed for another strong weekend. Advance bookings for the coming Saturday and Sunday are reportedly fast filling up in several cities, with premium-format screenings. Given its steady box office performance, the film is now on its way to hit the Rs 150 crore mark in India.

‘The Odyssey’ to clash with ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’

While the film has had a smooth run at the box office, come July 30, it will face new competition with the release of Tom Holland’s ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’. The superhero film, that already enjoys a huge fan following in India, will shake up the box office once again with the fourth instalment set for a wide release.

‘The Odyssey’ cast

Written and directed by Christopher Nolan, ‘The Odyssey’ is based on Homer’s ancient Greek epic and stars Matt Damon as King Odysseus. The ensemble cast includes Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, Jon Bernthal, Himesh Patel, John Leguizamo and Mia Goth.
