Senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi discharged from Gurgaon's Medanta Hospital

NEW DELHI: Senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi underwent a routine medical check-up at Medanta Hospital on Wednesday and has now returned home, Congress MP Jairam Ramesh said.Hospital sources earlier told news agency ANI that Gandhi had been admitted to the Gurugram-based hospital late Tuesday night.Doctors were carrying out investigations to rule out possible stomach and urinary tract infections. Sources said she was stable. The development comes weeks after Gandhi was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on March 24 after complaining of fever and undergoing treatment for a systemic infection.Meanwhile, Leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi reached the hospital after cancelling his scheduled visit to Kerala due to concerns over his mother’s health.Addressing a rally virtually in Kozhikode, Rahul Gandhi said he stayed back in Delhi after Sonia Gandhi was hospitalised.“I would have liked to come there, but yesterday my mother was hospitalised and, as a son, I was worried about her, so I decided to stay with her. I know the people of Kerala will understand this,” he said.Rahul Gandhi also recalled being comforted by a nurse from Kerala during the night. “Last night, I was extremely worried about my mother’s health. The whole night, I was only comforted by one thing — a nurse from Kerala who came in every hour to check on my mother,” he said. The veteran Congress leader has faced multiple health issues in recent years. In June last year, she was admitted to hospital for stomach-related complications and kept under observation in the gastroenterology department. She was also hospitalised at Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital on June 7, 2025.
