President Donald Trump to Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang: 'I hope you're right… all I can say'

US President Donald Trump publicly expressed his awe and limited understanding of artificial intelligence (AI), saying the technology is “taking over the world” during a state visit to Britain. His remarks came as he and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer hosted a meeting with tech and business leaders, including Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang.Trump addressed the tech leaders, specifically singling out Huang, saying, “I’m looking at you guys. You’re taking over the world. Jensen, I don’t know what you’re doing here.” His comments drew laughter from the audience and Starmer. Trump concluded his thought by stating, “I hope you’re right. All I can say is, we both hope you’re right.”

Trump and Starmer sign ‘Tech Prosperity Deal’

Following his remarks, Trump and Starmer signed a new “Tech Prosperity Deal” to boost collaboration between the US and Britain. The pact includes joint efforts to develop AI models for healthcare, expand quantum computing capabilities, and streamline civil nuclear projects. Before signing the document, Trump humorously asked his Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, for his approval. “Should I sign this?” Trump asked. He then joked, “Are you sure Scott? If the deal’s no good, I’m blaming you, Scott,” before putting pen to paper.

Nvidia, Google and Microsoft commits billions in UK investment

As part of the deal, Nvidia committed to its largest rollout in Europe to date, deploying 120,000 graphics processing units across Britain. Huang predicted that the country will become an “AI superpower”. Notably, both Google and Microsoft also said that they will invest in the UK, with Microsoft CEO Saty Nadella announcing the biggest single investment – a $30 billion spending package – its largest ever outside the US.Google’s parent company, Alphabet, also announced a $6.8 billion investment in UK artificial intelligence. This funding will support infrastructure and scientific research over the next two years, the company said. According to Google’s chief investment officer, Ruth Porat, the UK offers “profound opportunities” for its work in advanced science.
