Police have registered an FIR against Punjabi singer Rammy Randhawa, a resident of Ajnala in Amritsar, for allegedly displaying weapons in a social media video post. The action stems from a post dated December 13, which went viral and prompted the complaint.

According to police claims, the video shows Randhawa allegedly flaunting firearms and mentioned the caption in Punjabi, which can be loosely translated as “by my pillow lie two things, my love — one is history, the other is time (or death)”. He further wrote, “Sardari is earned by offering one’s head; becoming a Sardar is not easy”.

The Ajnala police station took suo motu cognizance based on a complaint from ASI Kawaljeet Singh, who claimed an informant alerted him of the viral video. “When the ASI checked his Facebook account, he saw that Rammy Randhawa had shared an objectionable video displaying weapons on social media,” the complaint stated. “Openly displaying weapons is a legal offence and creates a fearful atmosphere in society.”

The FIR has been lodged under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and section(s) of the Arms Act against Ramandeep Singh alias Rammy Randhawa of Gujjha Peer.

Investigators are now allegedly probing whether the weapons shown have valid licences or if they are illegal, with records being checked for Randhawa’s name. No statement has emerged from the singer yet, and the video reportedly remains on his Facebook wall.
