Opposition parties are planning a march from Parliament to Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday afternoon to protest against the police crackdown on Cockroach Janta Party supporters in Delhi, sources have told The Indian Express.

At the meeting of floor leaders of Opposition parties, the police action on Monday was discussed, and all parties were on board on the need to take the protest outside Parliament.

“We discussed it during the meeting in (Mallikarjun) Kharge ji’s chamber, and have tentatively decided that we will hold the march this afternoon depending on Parliament proceedings. All parties are on board,” said an MP, who was part of the meeting.

Separately, a delegation of Opposition leaders, led by Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, met Speaker Om Birla and put forward their demand for a discussion on the “brutality unleashed on students” and the “government’s complete lack of accountability for the examination crisis”.

Gandhi was accompanied by Samajwadi Party MP Dharmendra Yadav, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant, Congress MP KC Venugopal and others.

In a post on X, Gandhi said: “Met the Hon’ble Lok Sabha Speaker today along with MPs of the Opposition. Our demand is simple: Parliament must have a detailed discussion on the brutality unleashed on students yesterday and on the government’s complete lack of accountability for the examination crisis.”

Gandhi added that students were beaten for asking legitimate questions about their own future. “If Parliament cannot discuss the future of India’s youth, what is it for? The Opposition will not let this be buried. We will ensure that the students’ voice will be heard on the streets, and in Parliament,” he wrote.

A day after violence erupted during the CJP’s protest march from Jantar Mantar to Parliament, Delhi Police on Tuesday registered five FIRs and launched an investigation into whether the violence was part of a larger conspiracy to disrupt peace in the national capital.
