'Nothing to hide': Donald Trump backs release of Epstein files, calls controversy a ‘Democrat hoax’

NEW DELHI: US President Donald Trump on Sunday (Local time) signalled support for the release of classified files linked to Jeffrey Epstein, reversing his earlier position as pressure mounts in Washington over the long-running scandal. In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said: “House Republicans should vote to release the Epstein files, because we have nothing to hide,” calling the uproar surrounding his former friend’s crimes a “Democrat hoax.”

His remarks came a day after he publicly endorsed US lawmakers’ efforts to make additional Epstein documents public, a move that marks a shift from his previous opposition. The issue has triggered internal friction within the Republican Party, with members split over whether the files should be released.Critics have accused Trump of attempting to prevent potentially damaging information from emerging about his own alleged involvement. The president has denied any wrongdoing and rejected claims that he sought to block the vote.
