Jasprit Bumrah reached several milestones during the first T20I against South Africa at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, completing 100 wickets in the format.Bumrah returned to action after being rested for the ODI series and became only the second Indian bowler, after Arshdeep Singh, to cross the 100-wicket mark in T20Is. He reached the landmark in his third over by dismissing Dewald Brevis for 22. In the same over, he also removed Keshav Maharaj. The fast bowler now has 101 wickets from 81 T20I matches, with an average of 18.11.With this achievement, Bumrah also became the first Indian bowler to take 100 wickets in all three international formats. He has 234 wickets in Tests and 149 in ODIs. His overall international tally stands at 484 wickets, leaving him 16 short of the 500-wicket mark.

Bowlers with 100 wickets in all three international formats:

  • Lasith Malinga
  • Tim Southee
  • Shakib Al Hasan
  • Shaheen Afridi
  • Jasprit Bumrah

India went on to beat South Africa by 101 runs in the opening T20I, taking a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. After being put in to bat, India posted 175, with Hardik Pandya scoring 59 off 28 balls. Most other batters found scoring difficult in the conditions. The bowlers then made use of the pitch to take regular wickets as South Africa were bowled out for their lowest total in T20 internationals. The 101-run win came despite India losing the toss in conditions that included a damp pitch and dew later in the evening.
