MEERUT: Days after a 25-year-old HPCL engineer was arrested in Moradabad soon for allegedly murdering his twin sister in a knife attack, details from the post-mortem report brought out the extent of the assault. Senior police officers said it was one of the “most brutal murder sites” they have come across in their career.Moradabad (City) SP Kumar Ranvijay said, “The post-mortem report revealed the extent of the assault. Doctors found at least 50 deep stab wounds on Himshikha’s neck, chest, abdomen, arms, legs, shoulders and face. Several vital organs, including the heart, liver and kidneys, were severely damaged. Almost no part of the body was spared.”Police said the attack took place on the evening of March 7 and that the motive was linked to a failed relationship. During the investigation, they found that the accused, Hardik Malhotra, had been in an online relationship with a woman from another faith for the past seven months.

Police said the two allegedly communicated through social media and never met in person. A few weeks before the killing, the relationship ended, leaving him disturbed. Investigators said Himshikha had counselled him to focus on his career. The two worked together in Gurugram and stayed together, and during questioning Hardik told police that he had left his job as a software engineer a year ago while his sister continued working. He said he wanted to build a career in social media content development.Originally from Badaun, the siblings had come to their home in Moradabad for Holi. The twins had been living in Gurugram, where Himshikha worked in a private firm and was also preparing for MBA exams. Police said another argument broke out between them on the same issue, following which Hardik picked up a kitchen knife and attacked her.Their mother, who had separated from her husband years ago, worked as an assistant manager in a private insurance firm in Moradabad. “After the murder, Hardik drove to his mother Neelima Malhotra’s office and took her with him. When she entered the house and saw what had happened, she screamed, and Hardik attacked her too,” Ranvijay said. He added, “She suffered multiple injuries but survived and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital.”
