NEW DELHI: Manipuri musician Chongtham Vikram Singh, who was allegedly beaten to death by eight people outside his home in Delhi, had suffered extensive injuries, including fractures to at least 15 ribs, his postmortem report revealed.Singh, a resident of Kilokari Ashram in southeast Delhi, was allegedly assaulted with fists and feet around 11.30pm on Sept 6, according to the case history recorded in the report.He was taken to Holy Family Hospital shortly after midnight in an unconscious and unresponsive state and died during treatment at 6.32am on Sept 7.The AIIMS postmortem examination, conducted the same day, found multiple abrasions and bruises on his head, face, neck, arms, chest, abdomen, back and legs.AIIMS Delhi Forensic Medicine HOD Dr Sudhir Gupta stated that Vikram Singh died due to severe physical assault on the chest and abdomen.A large bruise on the left side of his back had an imprint resembling the thumb, index, middle and ring fingers of a left hand.The examination found fractures of the first to 11th ribs on the left side and the sixth to ninth ribs on the right side, with bleeding around the fractures.Around two litres of blood had accumulated in the abdominal cavity, along with 160 grams of clotted blood. The spleen was enlarged and had suffered a deep laceration measuring around 7cm.The report stated the cause of death was “haemorrhagic shock consequent upon blunt trauma to the chest and abdomen”. The viscera were preserved for chemical and toxicological analysis.Hospital records mentioned that an eFAST examination had indicated internal bleeding in the abdomen and a suspected splenic laceration. Singh was given blood and blood-product transfusions during treatment.The postmortem was conducted by a medical board comprising senior resident doctors of AIIMS. Police have preserved its photographs and videography as part of the investigation.Singh, a guitarist who was earlier part of popular music bands in Manipur, taught music in Delhi and was involved in several musical collaborations.On the day of the incident, Singh got frustrated by the shouting and commotion by delivery men and workers of a nearby dhaba and went downstairs to ask them to lower the noise.Singh’s son, Yaiphaba, has told police that his father soon came back shouting for help. On opening the door, Yaiphaba allegedly saw a group of men kicking and punching Singh.He raised an alarm, following which they fled. Police have apprehended eight people, including a minor.
