Pakistan-sent weapons seized in Pathankot

PATHANKOT: Punjab Police claimed to have foiled a possible terror attack after recovering a cache of weapons in the Narot Jamal Singh area. Deputy Inspector General (Border Range) Sandeep Goel said that acting on a tip-off, police conducted checks and seized three AK-47 rifles, five magazines, two pistols of Turkish and Chinese make, two extra magazines, and 98 bullets. He said the weapons were believed to have been sent from Pakistan by Harvinder Singh alias Rinda, a terrorist associated with the Babbar Khalsa International organisation, allegedly under instructions from Pakistan’s ISI to destabilise Punjab.

Goel said police received information about the consignment on Saturday, following which a team carried out a raid in the jurisdiction of the Narot Jamal Singh police station, where the weapons were found hidden.Preliminary investigation indicated that Rinda planned to use the weapons to carry out a major attack through his associates. Goel added that timely human intelligence helped police intercept the consignment before it could be used.A case has been registered against Harvinder Singh Rinda and unidentified persons under the Explosive Substances Act, 1908, the Arms Act, 1959 (Sections 25, 54, 59), and Section 111 of the BNS.
