Loud DJ music kills 140 chickens in UP's Sultanpur; case filed against operator

LUCKNOW: In an unusual incident raising concerns over noise pollution and its impact on livestock, a poultry farm owner in Sultanpur district has alleged that 140 chickens died due to high-decibel DJ music played during a wedding procession passing near his farm. The incident occurred on the night of April 25, 2026, in Dariyapur village under the Baldirai police station limits.According to the complaint, a wedding procession for the daughter of local resident Babban Vishwakarma had arrived from Ram Bhadra Purva in the Kudwar area. The procession included a DJ system playing music at high volume.Complainant Sabir Ali, who owns a poultry farm located along the procession route, stated that at around 9:30 pm, the procession passed directly in front of his farm. He alleged that the loud and intense sound from the DJ system triggered panic among the birds.“The noise was so intense that the chickens got frightened and died,” Sabir Ali said in his complaint, attributing the entire loss to the excessive sound levels.Based on the complaint, Baldirai police have registered an FIR against the DJ operator, identified as Kavi Yadav, a resident of Parsipur in Kudwar and son of Lal Bahadur Yadav under the charges of bns 270 (public nuisance), 325 (mischief by killing poisoning).Police said the case was registered on Tuesday night and an investigation is underway.Officials are examining whether the DJ system violated prescribed sound limits and are reconstructing the sequence of events to determine the exact cause of the deaths.Experts note that high-intensity sound waves can induce acute stress in birds and animals, potentially leading to shock or cardiac arrest in extreme cases. No immediate response has been received from the accused DJ operator or the family hosting the wedding procession. The incident has sparked debate over regulation of loud music at public events, particularly in rural areas where such activities may impact nearby livelihoods dependent on livestock.
