Iran US War LIVE: EAM S Jaishankar held talks with Iran Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Friday as India hosts the 18th BRICS Summit. He said they held a detailed conversation, discussing the situation in West Asia and the implications of the war. The war has virtually halted all trade through the Strait of Hormuz, the maritime chokepoint through which about a half of India’s oil imports, 60 per cent of its LNG imports and a staggering 90 per cent of its LPG imports passed through. Since the beginning of the conflict on February 28, India has taken host of measures to offset the impact of the war on energy consumers. On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked citizens to take steps to offset the impact of the energy supply disruptions due to the war in West Asia. While global oil prices increased by about 50 percent, Indian oil companies have cushioned the blow on domestic consumers. However, prices have gradually kept increasing, and in the lasted, oil companies on Friday announced a hike of Rs 3 per litre for petrol and diesel.
Trump says Xi backs keeping Iran nuke-free, offered help to reopen Hormuz: Amid the fragile truce between the Washington and Tehran, US President Donald Trump said on Friday that he and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping discussed Iran and “feel very similar about (how) we want it to end,” referring to the war in West Asia, AP reported. The US President said the two leaders do not want Iran to have nuclear weapons. Trump also said that Xi offered his help to reopening the Strait of Hormuz, news agency Reuters reported earlier. The two leaders met at the walled-off Zhongnanhai complex in Beijing as Trump wraps up his state visit to China, which marks the first visit by a US President since 2017. “We’ve settled a lot of different problems that other people wouldn’t have been able to solve,” Trump said.

‘Running out of patience’ Earlier on Friday, Trump signalled that he is running out of patience with Iran as he urged Tehran to reach a deal with Washington. “I am not going to be much more patient,” Trump said in an interview aired on Fox News’ ‘Hannity’ program, adding that “They should make a deal.”The near-weapons grade uranium in Iran alongside Tehran’s enrich capability, has been the key sticking point in the talks.Trade along the Strait of Hormuz has remained halted, as the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy has been targeting vessels bypassing Tehran’s restrictions, forcing them to take an alternate route through its territorial waters and pay hefty tolls. Tehran established an agency to formalise the toll collection. In the meantime, the US Navy has maintained its blockade on Iranian ports.
