NEW DELHI: India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was forced to leave the field retired hurt after being hit on the wrist during the opening day of the second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo on Sunday.The incident happened during the 58th over of India’s innings, when Sri Lanka pacer Lahiru Kumara bowled a short delivery.Pant went for a pull shot but could only glove the ball. He immediately appeared to be in discomfort and held his wrist.The physio quickly came onto the field and applied an ice pack to Pant’s wrist to prevent swelling. After a lengthy stoppage, tape was briefly applied to the wrist before being removed.The umpire also checked on Pant before the India batter eventually walked off the field retired hurt.Ravindra Jadeja came out to bat in Pant’s place.Pant was later seen receiving further treatment from the physio in the dugout, with his wrist being checked and taped.India are leading the two-match series 1-0. India won the opening Test in Galle by 165 runs and will be looking to seal the series in Colombo.
