‘Clearly a terror attack’: Marco Rubio praises India’s handling of Delhi blast — adds ‘they don’t need our help’

US secretary of state Marco Rubio on Tuesday condemned the recent Delhi blast, calling it “clearly a terrorist attack” and expressing solidarity with India. Rubio made the remarks after a meeting with external affairs minister S Jaishankar, where the two leaders discussed the ongoing investigation and regional security concerns.Commending India’s swift response, Rubio said that authorities were “doing a great job” in handling the probe into the incident. He also reiterated the United States’ commitment to support India in its counterterrorism efforts and to strengthen bilateral cooperation in security and intelligence sharing.

Speaking to the media, Rubio said, “The Indians need to be commended. They’ve been very measured, cautious and very professional in how they’re carrying out this investigation. That investigation continues. It clearly was a terrorist attack, and was a car loaded with highly explosive materials that detonated and killed a lot of people.” He further praised India’s response to the incident and said, “I think they are doing a great job of carrying out an investigation and when they have facts, they’ll release those facts.”Also read: Who was in the car, how the bomb worked, and what comes nextRubio also noted that the two sides also discussed the potential wider implications of the blast for regional security but agreed to await the investigation’s final report. He also reaffirmed the United States’ support for India while acknowledging the country’s capability to conduct a thorough probe.

“We spoke about it a little bit today, and the potential that it had to become something broader. But I think we are gonna wait to see what the investigation reveals,” he said, “we’ve offered to help, but I think they are very capable on this investigation; they don’t need our help, and they are doing a good job.”He commended India’s handling of the investigation, saying authorities were “doing a great job” in pursuing leads and would share findings once confirmed. The EAM shared that during the meeting, Marco Rubio expressed his condolences for the lives lost in the attack. “Good to meet secretary Marco Rubio this morning at G7 FMM. Appreciate his condolences on the loss of lives in the blast in Delhi,” the foreign minister wrote in a post on X.The meeting comes amid heightened security alerts across major Indian cities following the explosion, which left several injured and is currently under investigation by national agencies.The deadly blast that happened near the Red Fort in the evening of November 10 killed at least 12 people while injuring several others. The probe has come to reveal a “white-collar terror network” while further investigation is still under way.
