NEW DELHI: Cockroach Janata Party founder Abhijeet Dipke on Saturday claimed that he was “beaten and put under detention” by the Delhi Police as chaos erupted at Jantar Mantar after Sonam Wangchuk was taken to hospital.In a social media post on X, Dipke alleged that the Delhi Police was cracking down at Jantar Mantar and beating people.“I have been beaten up and put under detention by Delhi Police,” Dipke said.“Delhi Police is cracking down at Jantar Mantar, beating people up and taking away Sonam sir forcefully,” he added.This comes after Sonam Wangchuk was removed from the protest site and taken to hospital as his hunger strike against alleged irregularities in the NEET examination entered Day 21.Meanwhile, protesters were being removed from the protest from Jantar Mantar.According to Delhi police, the decision to shift Wangchuk was taken as per Delhi high court’s order and expert medical advise“As per orders of Hon’ble High Court and on expert medical advise due to the deteriorating health condition of Sonam Wangchuk, he has been shifted to the hospital for essential medical care,” Delhi Police in a social media post on X.“While complying with the orders of Hon’ble High Court the protestors tried to create obstruction, in which slight commotion ensued, however police took maximum restrain and undertook the exercise safely. We request the protestors at Jantar Mantar to peacefully vacate the place at the earliest,” it added.Dipke claims attack on WangchukEarlier, Dipke alleged that “goons tried to attack” activist Sonam Wangchuk at Jantar Mantar amid his ongoing hunger strike.In a social media post on X, Dipke said that an object was thrown at Wangchuk, but he was not hurt.“Goons tried to attack Sonam sir at Jantar Mantar. An object was thrown at him, but fortunately, he was not hurt,” Dipke said.“A few days ago, I had warned that people would be sent to Jantar Mantar to disrupt the protest after I was informed by an insider in the police,” he added.He further said that the government would be held responsible if anything happened to Wangchuk at Jantar Mantar.“If anything happens to Sonam sir, the government will be responsible as there’s clearly a plan to dismantle the peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar,” he said.Dipke also accused Delhi Police of enabling attempts to disrupt what he described as a peaceful protest.“Today, there were multiple incidents where people created disturbances, yet the police failed to respond for hours,” he said.“By allowing this to continue, they are enabling attempts to disrupt what has remained a peaceful protest,” he added.The Cockroach Janata Party has been holding a protest at Jantar Mantar since June 20, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities in the NEET examination, a judicial probe into the alleged examination scams, and wider reforms in the examination system.Wangchuk joined the agitation on June 28 and has remained on an indefinite hunger strike since then.
