In a fresh development in the alleged abuse case at Little Scholars, a daycare centre operating inside the Capgemini campus in Bengaluru, the management on Tuesday alleged that it was the target of a “highly orchestrated criminal conspiracy”, an extortion attempt and a defamation campaign by former employees, including two women arrested in the case.
Police, however, said the investigation is continuing. A senior officer confirmed that the toddlers seen in the viral videos have undergone medical examination as part of the probe.
In a statement, Little Scholars alleged that two former employees, Sujatha and Vijayalakshmi R., were dismissed on June 25 following an alleged physical and verbal altercation at the daycare. According to the management, the two later returned to the premises seeking reinstatement and, after being refused, allegedly conspired to extort the organisation.
“Little Scholars has been the target of a highly orchestrated criminal conspiracy involving extortion, blackmail and a malicious campaign to tarnish the institution’s reputation,” the company said in its statement.
The management further alleged that the former employees circumvented the centre’s security protocols by bringing a mobile phone into the facility, taking children to areas outside CCTV coverage and deliberately recording videos that were later used to pressure the management.
“The videos were not created to report abuse but were deliberately staged and recorded as part of an extortion attempt after their services were terminated,” the statement alleged.
The daycare also accused its former centre manager, Manjula, of acting in collusion with the dismissed employees. It alleged that Manjula introduced a man identified as Mahender, who purportedly posed as a police officer.

According to the company, Mahender initially collected Rs 20,000 from the proprietor, claiming it was required for legal expenses, before allegedly demanding a further Rs 2.5 lakh.
“When the management refused to meet the unlawful demands or reinstate the terminated employees, the videos were circulated to the media in an attempt to damage the organisation’s credibility,” the company alleged.
The statement further claimed that Manjula later absconded after police informed the daycare that Mahender was not a police officer.
The company further said it has cooperated with both the police investigation and Capgemini’s internal inquiry by providing CCTV footage, digital records, call logs, financial transaction details and other relevant material.

The company also reiterated that Capgemini’s role was limited to providing space for the daycare within its campus and that Little Scholars independently managed all childcare operations.
Police said only Sujatha and Vijayalakshmi have been arrested so far in connection with the case, while the investigation into the allegations made by both the complainants and the daycare management is ongoing. A senior police officer said the children’s medical examinations have been completed as part of the investigation.
Police are yet to comment on the allegations of extortion and impersonation made by the daycare management.
