‘Airport-cum-seaport’: Heavy rain leaves Noida airport waterlogged, sparks online jibes
Heavy rain caused temporary waterlogging near Noida International Airport’s terminal and parking area.

NOIDA: A spell of heavy rain led to temporary waterlogging near the terminal and parking area of Noida International Airport in Jewar on Tuesday, with videos triggering a wave of online mockery over the newly launched airport’s drainage setup. The visuals, purportedly from the newly operational airport, showed rainwater collected in the parking zone and the passage connecting it to the terminal. The videos prompted criticism online, with users questioning the airport’s drainage arrangements. One user sarcastically wrote, “See!! You can now experience both airport and seaport together. Vishwaguru for a reason.”Another commented, “This is Vikas Ganga,” while a third wrote, “Swimming pool ka bhi jugaad ho gaya hai guys airport par.”Airport authorities, however, said the waterlogging was temporary and did not affect flight operations or the overall functioning of the airport. In a statement to TOI, Noida International Airport said the rainwater accumulated after “extremely heavy rainfall over a short time period” and temporarily entered the passage connecting the terminal with the parking area.“Airport teams responded promptly, clearing the water under 30 minutes. There was no impact on flight operations or the overall functioning of the airport,” the airport said. The airport authorities added that teams were continuing to monitor the situation and were prepared to ensure uninterrupted passenger movement. The incident comes less than five months after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Phase I of Noida International Airport on March 28, 2026.Located in Jewar in Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddha Nagar district along the Yamuna Expressway, the airport was developed as a second international gateway for the Delhi-NCR region after Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.Noida International Airport began commercial flight operations on June 15.Phase I of the airport was developed at an investment of around Rs 11,200 crore under a public-private partnership model and has an initial capacity to handle 12 million passengers annually. The capacity is planned to be expanded to 70 million passengers per year in subsequent phases. The airport has a 3,900-metre runway capable of handling wide-body aircraft, along with an Instrument Landing System and airfield lighting designed to support all-weather operations.
