AHMEDABAD: A 27-year-old fast-food restaurant manager was stabbed to death in the CTM area of Amraiwadi on Sunday afternoon by a man who suspected his wife of having an affair with the victim. The deceased’s sister lodged an FIR with charges of murder with Amraiwadi police.The deceased, identified as Gopal Rathod, a resident of New Bhavaninagar in Amraiwadi, worked as a manager at a fast-food outlet where he met the accused’s 24-year-old wife. The two became friends, according to PI R B Chavda of Amraiwadi police station.
The victim visited the woman’s home on Sunday afternoon while her husband was away. When the accused unexpectedly returned and found them together, he became angry, hurled casteist slurs at the 27-year-old and, grabbing a knife from the kitchen. The accused stabbed the victim on the neck and shoulder, causing fatal injuries, before fleeing, according to the FIR. The woman alerted emergency services as the man bled profusely. They declared the 27-year-old dead upon arrival. The deceased’s 28-year-old sister lodged an FIR against the accused with Amraiwadi police under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita pertaining to murder and voluntarily causing hurt, as well as under Section 3(2)(v) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. “The 30-year-old accused was caught from the scene shortly after police reached the spot and has been detained,” Chavda said, adding that Ahmedabad City I-Division ACP Krunal Desai has undertaken further investigation.
