A day after Delhi Police cracked down on the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) protest in Delhi, Union Health Minister JP Nadda visited two hospitals and met some of the injured protesters on Tuesday. Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, and his sister and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi also met the injured at Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital.
Nadda visited RML and Lady Hardinge hospitals. “I met Sheikh Irshad, who was injured and is under treatment in Lady Hardinge Hospital. He said he is satisfied with the treatment. I spoke to the doctors, and they briefed me on the line of treatment,” he told The Indian Express. Among those under treatment at RML hospital is a young woman, whose condition is learnt to be serious.

Scores of people, both protesters and security personnel, were injured as central Delhi turned into a battleground on Monday morning. The CJP supporters were marching to Parliament to demand the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over multiple paper leaks ahead of competitive exams. Monday was the first day of the Monsoon Session, and police cracked down hard to stop the protesters.

Targeting the Centre for the police action against youngsters, Rahul Gandhi slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and said they too must resign. “The point is that this is no way to treat young people of this country. They don’t have any opportunities. All the doors are closed. Only one door is open – competitive exams. And that door is also destroyed. These students are not just complaining about the education system; they are complaining about their future,” he said.
“They are saying that in this country today – because of Mr Adani and Ambani, because of the RSS’ complete takeover of the education system, because of pracharaks (RSS) becoming V-Cs of universities, we have no future. This is not just about education. This is about the future of young people. They watched the Ambani wedding where a thousand crores were spent. They have no money to open a business.This is young people saying we have no future in India. There is nothing wrong with this. And instead of saying, okay, we are going to improve the education system, we will work to fix the testing system. I don’t know what the Prime Minister is doing. That is the story,” he said.
Asked if Pradhan’s resignation would be enough, the Congress leader said, “He is the intermediary. He should resign. But Dharmendra Pradhan hasn’t beaten up the students; the Home Minister has, and he should resign, and the Home Minister reports to the PM, who should also resign.”
