Vadodara man ‘falls unconscious’ while driving car, crashes into two-wheelers

TWO MOTORCYCLISTS suffered head injuries when a car driven by a 62-year-old man veered into them after the driver developed a “sudden health issue,” leading to loss of control over the vehicle in Vadodara on Thursday, police said. The driver of the car, Hitesh Suryakant Thakkar, was declared dead on arrival by doctors at the SSG Hospital. The accident happened near the Kothi Crossroad in Raopura area, police said.

The car rammed into two two-wheelers as well as a stationary Sports Utility Vehicle at the Kothi crossroads on Thursday. Thakkar, a resident of Makarpura area of Vadodara, was found in an unconscious state by passersby after his car rammed into two motorcycles and a stationary vehicle at full speed before coming to a halt. Thakkar’s car had also been released as he had lost control and accelerated before the high-impact crash, police said.

Thakkar was taken to the SSG hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival, prompting the police to send the body for post-mortem examination. The two injured persons have been identified as Karshan Rathwa and Pratik Rathwa, who are undergoing treatment at SSG hospital.

A police officer said a case of accidental death had been registered in the case of Thakkar’s death while a preliminary inquiry had been initiated into the accident. A senior officer said, “Doctors suspect that a sudden cardiac arrest may have caused the death of the driver, which led to him losing control over the car. The post-mortem report is awaited.”
