What began as a routine cab booking process in Bengaluru turned into a moment that left a lasting impression, and the internet can’t stop talking about it.

X user Sneha recently shared an experience on the social media platform, saying she was picked up by a woman auto-rickshaw driver, which she described as rare enough to instantly spark excitement. “Booked an auto. Lady driver pulls up,” she wrote, calling the ride “insanely wholesome.”

A growing community

She said the conversation that followed made the moment truly special. Instead of the usual small talk, Sneha said she heard a story of quiet confidence. The driver told Sneha that she had undergone nearly 40 days of training with Namma Yatri. She said she chose to drive an electric auto-rickshaw because it was easier to handle, and bought it through a loan.

“Got the auto on loan, she has already paid 2.5L,” Sneha noted, adding that the driver earns close to Rs 45,000 a month, and sometimes even more.

The driver also spoke about a growing community of women like her. According to Sneha, there are around 300 women auto-rickshaw drivers operating in Koramangala alone, all part of a group that keeps them connected and supports one another.

Concerns over safety and harassment, which are often cited when women enter such spaces, did not reflect her experience. “She’s never been teased and said people have largely been supportive,” Sneha said.

One detail stood out above everything else. “She said her favourite part is youngsters talking to her at signals,” Sneha wrote, adding that young girls, in particular, wave at her, smile, and speak to her with unmistakable admiration.

What made the story even more striking was what didn’t come with her journey. “She didn’t get any subsidised loan. No special interest. Not even because it’s an electric auto,” Sneha pointed out, adding that she wished more institutional support existed for women entering such professions.

“And still, she was just happy. confident. Proud.”

‘Need to normalise more of this’

The post quickly struck a chord online. Many users praised the driver’s independence and noted how the presence of women auto-rickshaw drivers makes public transport feel safer, especially for women commuters.

A user wrote, “This is so heartwarming. Confidence, dignity, and self respect matter more than anything. A woman earning independently, being respected on the road, and feeling proud of her work says a lot about the city and its people. Small moments like these restore faith that progress doesn’t always need noise it’s sometimes just quiet pride and genuine support.”

Another user commented, “It’s fantastic she shared her story. Getting trained by Namma Yatri and finding an electric auto easier is so cool. Building her own path like that is genuinely inspiring to hear about.”

A third person added, “Need to normalize more of this.. society needs more women to participate in the economy.. India’s GDP could easily be 20% more if women’s participation went up.”

A fourth individual shared, “This is the best thing I’ve read all day. The fact that she feels safe and supported by the public is a huge win for Bangalore. More power to her and that group of 300!”
