The Bengaluru police on Saturday arrested two men accused of assaulting a Zepto delivery executive in a road rage incident, a video of which went viral on Facebook on January 9.

The incident occurred around 8 pm on January 4, when the delivery executive, identified as Deepak Kumar, had picked up an order from the Zepto godown on 29th Cross, Kaggadasapura, the police said.

The police took up a suo motu case after the video surfaced and registered an FIR under sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 126(2) (wrongful restraint), 270 (public nuisance), and 3(5) (criminal act committed by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Acting on technical evidence and CCTV footage, the police said they tracked down and arrested Jagat, 28, and Dharma, 20, near Garudesh parking area, Hoodi Metro Station.

According to authorities, while Kumar was taking a right turn at a junction, two men riding another two-wheeler from the opposite direction allegedly applied sudden brakes, lost balance, and fell onto the road. Following the fall, the men reportedly began assaulting Kumar without any provocation.

The video shows the assailants punching Kumar on his face, hitting him with their helmets, knocking him to the ground, and repeatedly kicking him. Despite attempts by bystanders to intervene, the men allegedly continued the assault while Kumar lay on the road.

Further investigation is underway.
