The Haryana Board on Wednesday clarified that candidates applying for the Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test (HTET) 2026 are not required to mandatorily submit their Aadhaar number at the time of application.

In an official statement, Board of School Education Haryana (BSEH) Secretary Munish Sharma, said that applicants can complete the HTET 2026 application process using identity documents other than Aadhaar, including PAN card, Voter ID, Passport or any other valid government-issued identity proof.

Explaining the rationale, Sharma said the Supreme Court has not made Aadhaar compulsory for examinations, but has allowed it to be accepted as one of the identity proofs. In line with the apex court’s directions, Aadhaar has therefore not been made mandatory for HTET 2026.

Candidates can apply online for the examination till January 4, 2026, using Aadhaar or any of the alternative identity documents such as Voter ID, PAN card, Passport or Driving-Licence.

For context, for several major national-level examinations, the Ministry of Education and the National Testing Agency (NTA) have, in recent years, repeatedly advised candidates to ensure that their Aadhaar details are updated. Over the past few months, the NTA has issued multiple notices for key examinations including UGC-NET, and JEE Main, asking applicants to update Aadhaar information before submitting application forms.

The board secretary further informed that candidates will be given an opportunity to make corrections in their application details online on January 4 and 5, 2026. During this correction window, applicants can edit personal details, photograph, signature, thumb impression, examination level, subject selection (for Level 2 and Level 3), category, disability status and home state details.

As Indianexpress.com earlier reported, the Haryana TET 2026 exam will be held on January 17-18, 2026. Application-window opened in late December, and will close by January 4, 2026. HTET will cover levels for Primary Teacher (PRT), Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT), and Post Graduate Teacher (PGT).
