AT LEAST 30 persons were detained after two groups clashed and allegedly hurled stones at each other after a skirmish over a small issue near Sanand town in Ahmedabad, police said on Tuesday.

The violence took place at Kalana village in the Sanand GIDC area on Monday night, police said.

The Ahmedabad Rural Police said on Tuesday that the incident started with a fight between two bikers, which later escalated into stone pelting between the two groups.

Police teams soon reached the spot and brought the situation under control.

However, multiple persons allegedly involved in the stone pelting fled upon spotting the police, with many seeking refuge in nearby fields. The police then used a drone to track them down and apprehended them, detaining several for interrogation.

“FIRs were registered against both the groups for unlawful assembly and rioting among other sections of the BNS, and a total of 42 persons have been detained and are being questioned. Legal action is being taken based on their role,” said Superintendent of Police (Ahmedabad Rural) Om Prakash Jat.

“No one from either group was seriously injured, nor is there any report of loss of life or large-scale property damage. Adequate police deployment has been made to maintain law and order in the area and vigilance is being maintained to prevent a recurrence,” SP Jat said.

Further investigation is underway, police added.
