PUNE CITY Traffic Police have announced traffic changes including road closures in Pune Camp and Deccan Gymkhana area for the New Years Eve as large number of people gather in these areas for the celebrations. A concerted action will be taken against drunk drivers with check points to be set up at key locations in the city

Police have also notified ‘No Vehicle Zones’ on Fergusson College Road and Mahatma Gandhi (MG) Road. These traffic changes will be applicable from 5 pm on December 31 and will remain in force till the time crowds disperse in these areas in the early hours of January 1. An order in this regard was issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Himmat Jadhav on Tuesday.

No Vehicle Zones will be notified on following arterial roads: From Good Luck Hotel Chowk to Fergusson College Main Gate on Fergusson College road. From the 15 August Chowk to Aurora Towers on the MG Road.

Traffic changes for Pune Camp area will be as follows: The traffic coming from Y Junction to MG Road will be stopped at the 15 August Chowk and will be diverted via Qureshi Masjid and Sujata Mastani Chowk.

The traffic coming from Iskon Temple and going towards Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Statue and Aurora Towers, will be stopped. Traffic from Sarbatwala Chowk to Mahaveer Chowk will be stopped and will be diverted via Taboot Street Chowk.

Traffic from Indira Gandhi Chowk to Mahaveer Chowk will be stopped and will be diverted via Lashkar Police Station Chowk. Traffic coming from Volga Chowk to Mohammed Rafi Chowk will be stopped and will be diverted via East Street and India Gandhi Chowk.

Traffic changes in Deccan Traffic Division: Traffic coming from Kothrud and Karve Road will be stopped at Khandoji Baba Chowk. This traffic will be diverted via Law College Road, Prabhat Road and Alka Talkies Chowk.

Traffic coming from Jangali Maharaj Road to Khadoji Baba Chowk and traffic going to Fergusson College Road via various bylanes will be stopped at Balgandharva (Jhanshi Chi Rani Chowk) Chowk and will be diverted via PMC, Omkareshwar Temple and Shivaji Road.

No Entry to Heavy Vehicles:

Entry of heavy and very heavy vehicles has been banned from following points into the city from the early hours of December 31 till the night of January 1. The points from which the entry will be banned are: 1) Theur Phata, Loni Kalbhor 2) Harris Bridge, Khadki 3) Bopkhel Phata, Vishrantwadi 4) Radha Chowk, Baner 5) Navale Bridge, Warje 6) Katraj Chowk 7) Khadi Machine Chowk, Kondhwa 8) Mantarwadi, Fursungi 9) Markal Bridge.
