In one of the major robberies reported recently in Bengaluru, a gang allegedly intercepted an ATM cash-loading vehicle and made off with Rs 7.11 crore around Wednesday noon.

The incident took place near the Ashoka pillar when seven or eight people came in an Innova car, intercepted a van belonging to CMS Logistics, which was heading from HDFC Bank’s J P Nagar branch.

A police officer said, “Posing as Income Tax and Reserve Bank of India (RBI) officials, the suspects said they needed to verify the documents for carrying such huge cash without permission.”

The suspects allegedly forced the staff to get out of the vehicle and entered the van. They asked the driver to proceed for inspection, the police said. However, the gang allegedly abandoned the driver near Dairy Circle, moved the cash to their Innova, and fled from the scene.

A police officer said, “The accused asked the staff to come to the Siddapura police station. Later, they made the driver stop the vehicle on the Dairy Circle flyover in Suddaguntepalya police limits before escaping. We have been tracking the vehicle, and it has crossed a toll near Kolar.”
