Turning up the heat in the legal battle over the ownership of late entrepreneur Sunjay Kapur’s assets, reportedly worth Rs 30,000 crore, Samaira and Kiaan Raj, his children from his marriage with Bollywood actor Karisma Kapoor, have alleged that the signature on the contentious will is forged. Seeking official permission to inspect the original of the alleged will, the plaintiffs have expressed concerns about the authenticity of the document.

After hearing the arguments, the Delhi High Court, news agency PTI reported, issued notices to Priya Kapur, Sunjay Kapur’s wife at the time of his death, and Shradha Suri Marwah, the executor of the alleged will, seeking their responses to the allegations.
While challenging their late father’s purported will, Samaira and Kiaan have alleged that the document was forged and fabricated. They even went as far as to claim that the signatures on it were not those of their father, but were allegedly forged by Priya Kapur with the help of the attesting witnesses. As the hearing in the suit challenging the document progressed, the children filed a fresh application seeking permission to inspect the original of the alleged will, which Marwah had submitted in a sealed cover on September 25.
“It is submitted that inspection of the original copy of the alleged will is inter alia necessary for the plaintiffs to take appropriate steps regarding the genuineness of the said document, which cannot be ascertained from the true certified copy supplied to the plaintiffs by defendant number four (Marwah),” the application stated.
Priya Kapur’s counsel, meanwhile, criticised this, maintaining that the application was filed after they described the plaintiffs’ claims as “bogus and baseless.” In an earlier hearing, the counsel had reportedly said, “A will cannot be called fake because of spelling errors, and they have not even disputed Sunjay Kapur’s signature.” Nonetheless, the Delhi HC decided to proceed with the application and has sought Priya’s response. The matter will come up for hearing again on December 16.
Meanwhile, the hearing in the interim injunction application filed by Karisma Kapoor’s children to prevent Priya from alienating them from Sunjay Kapur’s assets will resume on November 20.
The latest development comes days after the court demanded restraint in the ongoing inheritance battle, stating that the proceedings should not turn “melodramatic,” news agency ANI reported. While Samaira and Kiaan’s lawyer alleged that the tuition fee for the former, who is currently studying in the US, had reportedly not been paid for two months, Priya’s advocate refuted the allegation, maintaining that the fee had already been remitted.
