Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo announced on Tuesday that the 2026 FIFA World Cup would be his final tournament appearance as he approaches the end of his illustrious career. When asked about his World Cup farewell, Ronaldo responded, “soon for me means in 10 years … no, I’m joking”. He then added, “I’m gonna be 41 years old and I think it will be the moment.”The legendary forward, who has netted over 950 career goals for club and country, began his professional journey at Sporting CP in 2002.Ronaldo recently extended his stay with Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr until 2027. At age 40, he remains focused on competing in next year’s World Cup, which notably remains the only major trophy absent from his extensive collection of accolades.“I feel very good in this moment. I score goals; I still feel quick and sharp. I’m enjoying my game in the national team. But of course, let’s be honest. What I mean by soon is probably one or two years.”Reflecting on his legacy and decades-long journey in football, he said, “I gave everything for football. I’ve been in the game for the last 25 years. I did everything”, and added, “I’m really proud. So let’s enjoy the moment, live the moment.”
