Stock market today: Nifty50 and BSE Sensex, the Indian equity benchmark indices, spanned their 3-day losing streak to close in green on Monday. The stock market rose on the back of positive trading in IT and financial sectors, along with global market gains.The NSE Nifty closed at 25,574.35, gaining 82.05 points (0.32 per cent), with an intraday high of 25,653.45, showing an increase of 161.15 points (0.63 per cent). The BSE Sensex index rose by 319.07 points (0.38 per cent) to finish at 83,535.35, reaching an intraday peak of 83,754.49, up by 538.21 points (0.64 per cent).Notable gainers amongst Sensex companies included Infosys, HCL Technologies, Bajaj Finance, Asian Paints, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, Tata Consultancy Services, Bharti Airtel, Titan, Bajaj Finserv, Reliance Industries and Larsen & Toubro.The top losers included Trent Ltd, Eternal, Power Grid, UltraTech Cement, Mahindra & Mahindra, Axis Bank, State Bank of India, Adani Ports, Hindustan Unilever and NTPC.“The potential resolution of the US government shutdown, coupled with renewed FIIs buying driven by a favourable Q2 earnings season, supported a positive sentiment in the market. The rise in the US 10-year Treasury yield reflects improving risk sentiment toward equities with the reopening of the federal government,” Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments, said.Nair added that robust domestic macroeconomic indicators are anticipated to support upward earnings estimate revisions for H2FY26, reinforcing current valuations and potentially attracting additional liquidity.Asian markets showed strong performance: South Korea’s Kospi rose 3.02 per cent, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng increased 1.55 per cent, Japan’s Nikkei 225 gained 1.33 per cent, and Shanghai’s Composite Index added 0.53 per cent.European markets displayed predominantly positive trends, while US markets closed higher on Friday.Exchange data showed Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) purchased equities worth Rs 4,581.34 crore on Friday, whilst Domestic Institutional Investors acquired stocks worth Rs 6,674.77 crore.On Friday, the BSE Sensex dropped 94.73 points to 83,216.28, while the NSE Nifty decreased by 17.40 points to 25,492.30.(Disclaimer: Recommendations and views on the stock market, other asset classes or personal finance management tips given by experts are their own.
