Pune city police booked a man for allegedly posing as an IPS officer while visiting different places including the Pune police commissionerate.
Police have identified the accused as Sagar Waghmode, aged around 30 and resident of Nerul in Navi Mumbai.

An FIR in the case was registered at the Bundgarden police station on October 31based on a complaint by Bhavik Shah (37), who is into the business of event management.

Police said the accused was in contact with the complainant posing as an IPS officer for about three years before. They visited various places together as the accused claimed to have contacts with top police officials. Police said the accused also visited the Income Tax Office and the Pune Police Commissionerate.

Recently, during a visit at the police commissionerate the accused allegedly claimed to be a batch mate of an IPS officer, who is currently posted as a deputy commissioner (DCP) with the Pune city police.

However, when the DCP got to know about it, he made it clear that the accused was not his batch mate. Subsequently, the Bundgarden police station was informed about the accused and an FIR was lodged against him.

Assistant police inspector Shivshant Khose, the investigation officer said, “The accused has not been arrested yet. Investigation is on. We have issued a notice to the accused, who is known to be a resident of Mumbai. He had been coming to Pune by posing as an IPS officer. Prima facie, it is learnt that he was booked in a similar offence of impersonation a few years before.”

Police suspect the accused was preparing for the competitive examinations in the past, but could not clear it. Police have booked the accused under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 204 (personating as public servant), 319 (2) (cheating by personation).
