Most flagship phones like the iPhone 17 Pro Max, Galaxy S25 Ultra, and Pixel 10 Pro XL are already heavy, crossing the 200-gram mark, but many people still end up glued to their screens for hours on end. And while many of us have already tried to reduce screen time using tricks like setting app timers and built-in features such as Bedtime and Night Mode, some still find themselves doomscrolling.

However, a new Kickstarter campaign wants to put an end to doomscrolling by putting a case on your mobile. Aptly named the 6 Pound Phone Case, the device is as heavy as its name suggests. Made by Matter Neuroscience, the group behind the case says that the “6 Pound Phone Case is chunky, dense, and made of stainless steel. It’s designed to be inconvenient and encourage less phone use.”

Matter Neuroscience says it has experimented with multiple ways to reduce smartphone addiction but settled on physical deterrence. The case’s sheer weight is meant to make your hands and arms tire out, encouraging you to put the phone down. Since it’s far too large for most pockets, users would have to carry it in a bag – or just leave it on a desk. Adding to the challenge, the case can’t easily be removed. It comes in two interlocking pieces that must be screwed together using an Allen wrench.

The 6 Pound Phone Case is compatible with iPhone 13 to the latest iPhone 17, and works well with the regular, Pro and Pro Max models. At the time of writing, the campaign has already raised more than $14,000 of its $75,000 goal and has 90 backers. Matter Neuroscience is selling the 6-Pound Phone Case for $209.15 (approx. Rs. 18,355) but says it’s being sold at break-even cost.
