Bank holiday on Bhai Dooj: Will banks remain shut on October 23? Check state-wise list

Diwali celebrations across the country are almost over with the arrival of BhaiDooj.As the festival of lights spans across almost 5 days in several states, many people are wondering whether banks are open or closed today, on October 23.This year, October had many bank holidays including Gandhi Jayanti, Navratri ending, Vijayadashmi, Naraka Chaturdashi, Laxmi Puja, Govardhan Puja, and Bhai Dooj.

Are banks closed on October 23?

Banks in several states remain closed today in observance of Bhai Dooj, Chitragupt Jayanti, Laxmi Puja Bhratridwitiya, and Ningol Chakkouba.Here is a list of states where banks will remain shut today:

  • Gujarat
  • Sikkim
  • Manipur
  • Uttar Pradesh
  • West Bengal
  • Himachal Pradesh

Upcoming holidays in the month:October 27: Banks will remain shut in West Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand for Chhath Puja (Evening Puja).October 28: Banks in Bihar and Jharkhand will observe a holiday for Chhath Puja (Morning Puja).October 31: Banks in Gujarat remain shut to commemorate Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s birth anniversary.According to RBI’s calendar, all scheduled and non-scheduled banks remain closed on second and fourth Saturdays and Sundays.Bank holidays does not mean that customers will not be able to carry out transactions or access funds, as most services remain available through online banking, ATMs, mobile apps, and UPI for fund transfers, bill payments, and balance checks.However, in-person services such as large cash deposits, cheque clearances, and demand drafts will be affected. Account holders are advised to plan ahead and leverage digital banking for seamless access during the festive period.
