The winners of the 72nd National Film Awards were announced on July 18, 2026.
The winners of the 72nd National Film Awards were announced in New Delhi on Saturday, with Article 370 emerging as the Best Feature Film. While Yami Gautam won the Best Actress award for her performance in Article 370, Kartik Aaryan (Chandu Champion) and Mammootty (Bramayugam) shared the Best Actor honour. Rajkumar Periasamy was named Best Director for Amaran. Kalki 2898 AD, Srikanth and Captain Miller were also among the big winners.

Apart from the top honours, Sanjay Mishra won Best Supporting Actor for Bhakshak, while Ropashree Varkady (Mithya) and Sachana Namidass (Maharaja) shared the Best Supporting Actress award. Kalki 2898 AD was named Best Feature Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment, Srikanth won Best Hindi Film, and Captain Miller took home the award for Best Film Promoting National, Social Values.

The competition was among the strongest in recent years, with acclaimed films such as All We Imagine As Light, Laapataa Ladies, Bramayugam, Aadujeevitham: The Goat Life, Pushpa 2, Stree 2, Jigra, Meiyazhagan, Premalu, Manjummel Boys and Hanu Man earning widespread critical and commercial acclaim. From powerful performances and ambitious storytelling to box office successes and festival favourites, the 2024 slate reflected the diversity of Indian cinema.
The awards recognise the best of Indian cinema from films certified by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) between January 1 and December 31, 2024. The winners were selected by an 11-member jury chaired by acclaimed Malayalam filmmaker Jayaraj.

Kartik Aaryan on National Award win: ‘Some moments are simply bigger than words’
Kartik Aaryan, who won the Best Actor Award for his performance in Chandu Champion, took to Instagram and wrote, “Still processing… Some moments are simply bigger than words, and this is one of them. A dream I’ve carried for years has finally come true. Forever humbled, forever grateful. Best Actor National Award #chanduchampion.”
