NTA Gears Up For NEET Re-Test As Massive Security Exercise Takes Place Nationwide | Watch

NEW DELHI: The NEET (UG) 2026 re-exam is set to be conducted on Sunday, with 22.8 lakh candidates across India set to appear for it.Here are the key numbers and developments ahead of the nationwide examination:

  • 22.8 lakh aspirants to appear for NEET (UG) re-test today. Of these, over 18 lakh to take exam in English, 3.5 lakh in Hindi
  • 5,440 exam centres in 551 cities in India; 14 abroad
  • 95,000 examination rooms, each equipped with CCTV. 1.4 lakh CCTVs, 51,311 jammers installed
  • 2 invigilators in every room, 10+ functionaries per centre
  • 38,795 frisking staff, 48,448 biometric staff
  • 40–50 security personnel per centre on average
  • Mock drill held across country on eve of the retest
  • Unidentified caller allegedly showed question paper on video call to a candidate in Ajmer and an ABVP member on Saturday. Offered it for 30,000. Police probe on
  • One Nagpur student being given exam centre in Abu Dhabi, NTA said student made the city change from his login. Local centre allotted now. Family contests NTA claim.

Uttar Pradesh accounts for the highest number of candidates, with 3.6 lakh aspirants set to appear for the exam, followed by Maharashtra at 2.2 lakh. Rajasthan, Bihar, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have each registered more than one lakh candidates.Southern states continue to have a strong representation among NEET aspirants. Karnataka has recorded 1.5 lakh registrations, followed by Tamil Nadu at 1.4 lakh, Kerala at 1.1 lakh and Telangana with over 73,000 candidates.English remains the dominant medium of examination, with over 18 lakh candidates opting for it. Hindi is a distant second with 3.5 lakh aspirants, while all other languages together account for a relatively small share of registrations.
