OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang cautiously praised U.S. President Donald Trump’s move to introduce a $100,000 fee for H-1B visas issued to international talent in the future, while highlighting the importance of immigration.

“We want all the brightest minds to come to the U.S. and remember immigration is the foundation of the American Dream,” but added that he was “glad to see President Trump making the moves he’s making,” Mr. Huang said in a CNBC interview.

Meanwhile, Mr. Altman agreed that the “smartest people” needed to get in the country, but observed that, “sort of outlining financial incentives seems good to me.”

Nvidia this week announced that it will invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI progressively as OpenAI plans to deploy at least 10 gigawatts of NVIDIA systems for OpenAI’s AI infrastructure.

Meanwhile, the White House announcement about the new H-1B visa fee, which largely impacts talent originating from India and China, sparked panic worldwide. Indian employees living in the U.S., international students on the lookout for jobs, and India residents hoping to be hired by American companies in the U.S. reacted emotionally to news of the steep visa fee, while the details of the new scheme are yet to be confirmed in full.
