The singer’s mortal remains were brought back to the Arjun Bhogeswar Baruah Sports Complex before being taken for the final rites. The first autopsy was conducted in Singapore. The post mortem will take place at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Tuesday in the presence of a team of expert doctors from AIIMS. “It (second post mortem) is not a demand from the public but from certain sections, and we have decided to conduct it with his wife’s consent. We do not want to create any controversy over Zubeen,” Himanta said.

What is your opinion on live-streaming Zubeen’s final journey?

He added, “After an autopsy was conducted in a neutral country – Singapore, where doctors have more technical expertise, I don’t think it was necessary for another post mortem. But there should not be any scope for any kind of politics over Zubeen.”The CM appealed to the people to give their statements if they have evidence against anyone’s involvement in any possible conspiracy in Zubeen’s death. He said a team of Assam Police will soon go to Singapore to collect the video footage and other evidence related to Zubeen. Zubeen’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, will accompany him in the ambulance along with some representatives of the Assam govt. A bus has been arranged for other family members and close relatives to travel to the cremation site, about 20 km from the sports complex, while no other vehicles will be allowed in the procession.Singer’s final journey to be live-streamed Himanta said Union minister Kiren Rijiju will represent Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while representatives of various state govts will be present on the occasion. Personnel of Assam Police will be the pallbearers of the coffin from the national highway, adjacent to Kamarkuchi, to the cremation site and accord a gun salute to the popular singer. Priests will then conduct the rituals before Zubeen is consigned to flames, he said on Monday. The highway will remain closed to vehicular traffic till Jorabat for four to five hours for the cremation to allow the procession to pass off peacefully, the CM said. The state has also declared dry days on Monday and Tuesday, while the Meghalaya govt has also said all alcohol shops will remain closed on the Meghalaya side of the route through which Zubeen’s cortege will pass, Himanta added.“The journey from the Sarusajai Stadium to the cremation ground and the entire cremation will be live-streamed on LED screens installed in the towns and villages across the state as only 5,000-7,000 people can be accommodated at the cremation venue,” he added. The CM said Zubeen’s wife and family members visited him on Monday at his residence and requested that the 13th day rituals for the singer be held in Jorhat. “The state govt will make arrangements for taking the ashes to Jorhat for the purpose. Garima and other family members will be present there,” he added.Himanta further said memorials will be constructed both in Guwahati and Jorhat in memory of Zubeen.Meanwhile, Jatiya Nari Bahini, sister organisation of Raijor Dal, lodged an FIR at Bongaigaon police station, naming four people. North East India Festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, Zubeen’s manager Siddharta Sharma, businessman Sanjive Naraine and Zubeen’s drummer Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, were named in the plaint that alleges conspiracy behind Zubeen Garg’s mysterious death in Singapore.
