Delhi traffic advisory: Key roads closed for 12 days of Ramlila — check alternate routes, parking arrangements

NEW DELHI: A grand Ramlila and Dussehra celebration will be held at the Red Fort grounds from September 22 to October 3, 2025, drawing large crowds each day. In anticipation of the daily gatherings of visitors, devotees, and VIPs, the Delhi Traffic Police have issued a traffic advisory detailing road closures, diversions, and parking arrangements to manage congestion and ensure safety. Netaji Subhash Marg closed; diversions for commercial and private vehicles Traffic movement will be completely restricted on Netaji Subhash Marg, from Delhi Gate to Chhatta Rail Chowk, every day between 5 pm and midnight during the 12-day festival. “Traffic movement will remain restricted on Netaji Subhash Marg from Delhi Gate to Chatta Rail Chowk and on Nishad Raj Marg, due to the crowd expected to come to these three Ramlilas,” said deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Nishant Gupta.

Poll

Do you support the restriction of e-rickshaws and auto-rickshaws on certain roads during the festival?

All DTC buses and commercial vehicles will be diverted from Delhi Gate Chowk, Daryaganj, and Chatta Rail Chowk, and will not be permitted toward Lal Quila during the restricted hours. If necessary, diversions for private vehicles will be enforced from Chhatta Rail Chowk, T-Point Subhash Marg, Delhi Gate, Shanti Van Chowk, and GPO Chowk on Lothian Road.Suggested alternate routes and parking plans To ease the flow of traffic, the following alternative routes are recommended:

  • Delhi Gate → Rajghat → Shanti Van → Hanuman Setu → Kelaghat → Chhatta Rail
  • Chhatta Rail → Hanuman Setu → Salimgarh Bypass → Rajghat → Delhi Gate

Parking without labels has been designated at:

  • Madhav Das Park
  • Tikona Park
  • Sunehari Masjid
  • Parade Ground
  • Dangal Maidan
  • Omaxe Mall
  • Church Mission Road

Vehicles with official parking labels will be allowed to park in designated zones near Lahori Gate, 15 August Park, and inside the 4A Parking Area. No e-rickshaws, auto-rickshaws, or cycle rickshaws will be allowed beyond Delhi Gate and Chhatta Rail Chowk on Netaji Subhash Marg.Public transport advised Officials have appealed to commuters to avoid driving through the Red Fort area and to prefer public transport, especially the Delhi Metro, to help reduce traffic congestion. The nearest metro stations to the venue are:

  • Lal Quila Metro Station
  • Jama Masjid Metro Station
