JHANSI: A 27-year-old woman was allegedly strangled to death at a rented house in Jhansi’s Sipri Bazar area, with police suspecting her husband’s involvement.Shivani, also known as Sudha, was found unconscious under a bed at the house near Fauji Tiraha in Awas Vikas Colony on Monday morning. She was taken to Jhansi Medical College, where doctors declared her dead.A postmortem conducted by a panel of doctors confirmed that she had been strangled. Doctors also found injuries on five parts of her face.Shivani, who was from Madhya Pradesh’s Datia in Indergarh area, had been living in Jhansi with her sister Muskan and brother Aniket for around three months. Her family alleged that her husband, Yash Thakur, a Gwalior resident, had assaulted her over minor issues after their marriage.According to police, they were informed on Aug 31 about a quarrel between the couple. Yash allegedly assaulted Shivani before locking the room from outside and leaving.The following morning, Shivani was found unconscious inside the room and taken to hospital.Police said Yash fled after the incident. An FIR was registered following a complaint from Shivani’s family, and police teams were formed to trace him.SP City Preeti Singh said police reached the house after receiving information about a dispute between the couple. She said Yash was wanted in the case and would be arrested soon.The police team that went to Gwalior to arrest accused Yash returned without finding him. The accused’s family members have also absconded after locking their house.According to CO City Ramveer Singh, police are analysing the call detail records (CDRs) of both the accused and the deceased.Police further said Yash worked as a salesman at a garments shop and had a criminal record, with several cases pending against him. After allegedly murdering Shivani and fleeing Jhansi, he also took her mobile phone. Both phones have remained switched off since then.Police are also looking into how the victim’s sister, who was sleeping in the adjacent room when Shivani was allegedly strangled, did not hear any sound of a scuffle or become suspicious. Police said Yash reportedly went to the sister’s room after midnight, possibly to collect some of his belongings before fleeing.
