India had another successful day at the Commonwealth Games 2026 as long jumper Murali Sreeshankar won his second consecutive silver medal, para athlete Dilip Mahadu Gavit claimed gold with a Games record, and the country’s boxers guaranteed 10 medals by reaching the semifinals. With three more medals added on Wednesday, India’s overall tally reached 15 medals — three gold, nine silver and three bronze – to stay eighth in the standings.

Sreeshankar wins another silver

Sreeshankar continued his impressive run at the Commonwealth Games by winning silver in the men’s long jump with a best effort of 8.09m. He had also finished second at the 2022 Games, becoming the first Indian to win back-to-back Commonwealth Games medals in the event. His opening jump of 8.03m put him in third place behind Scotland’s Stephen McKenzie and Jamaica’s Tajay Gayle, who both jumped 8.08m.Sreeshankar briefly moved into the lead with his 8.09m effort, but Gayle responded with a winning jump of 8.15m to take the gold. McKenzie settled for bronze with 8.08m, while India’s Lokesh Sathyanathan finished fifth with a best jump of 7.97m.

Dilip and Basil create history in para athletics

India created history in para athletics with a one-two finish in the men’s 100m T47 event for athletes with upper-limb impairments.Gavit won the gold medal after clocking a Games record time of 10.71 seconds. Mohammed Basil Morssinganakathi finished second with a season-best 10.83 seconds to claim silver. It was India’s third gold medal of the Games after Mirabai Chanu won the women’s 48kg weightlifting title and Sharmila Dhankar claimed gold in the women’s shot put F57 event.

Indian boxers assure 10 medals

India’s boxers enjoyed another outstanding day, with six more athletes reaching the semifinals and taking the country’s guaranteed boxing medal tally to 10.Sakshi Chaudhary (51kg), Arundhati Choudhary (70kg), Sachin Siwach (60kg), Ankush Panghal (80kg), Narender Berwal (+90kg) and world champion Jaismine Lamboria (57kg) advanced to the last four. They joined Lovlina Borgohain (75kg), Priya Ghanghas (60kg), Preeti Pawar (54kg) and Jadumani Singh (55kg), who had already secured semifinal spots. In the final bout of the day, Jaismine defeated England’s Elise Glynn 4-1 in the women’s 57kg quarterfinal. The performance has already surpassed India’s boxing medal haul from the 2022 Commonwealth Games, where the team won seven medals. With all 10 boxers in the semifinals, India is now assured of at least 10 bronze medals.

Hurdlers qualify for final

India also had good news on the track as Yashas Palaksha and Santhosh K Tamilarasan qualified for the men’s 400m hurdles final.Santhosh finished third in Heat 2 with a time of 49.51 seconds, while Yashas placed third in Heat 1 in 49.65 seconds. Both advanced as the two fastest non-automatic qualifiers.

Mixed results in field events

There was disappointment for Manpreet Singh, who narrowly missed a medal after finishing fourth in the women’s shot put final with a best throw of 17.49m.However, Tajinderpal Singh Toor and Samardeep Singh Gill kept India’s hopes alive by qualifying for the men’s shot put final.Toor crossed the automatic qualification mark with a throw of 20.14m after opening with 19.93m. Gill’s best throw was 19.95m, which was enough to qualify among the top 12 performers.

Kujur enters 200m semifinals

National record holder Animesh Kujur qualified for the men’s 200m semifinals after producing his season-best performance. The 23-year-old won Heat 4 in 20.46 seconds and finished seventh overall, comfortably making it to the last 16.

No success in weightlifting and swimming

India’s campaign in weightlifting suffered a setback as Sanjana failed to finish the women’s 77kg event. There was also disappointment in swimming, where Sajan Prakash and Aneesh S Gowda missed out on a place in the men’s 200m freestyle final. Prakash finished 20th overall with a time of 1:51.99, while Aneesh ended 18th in 1:51.64.
